Essay 2 Vs. Essay 1

The challenges that I hope to overcome are being able to expand more on my ideas. I don’t have a problem of coming up with ideas, I only have difficulty elaborating on them. Aside from developing lengthier main points, I will need to perfect the synthesis technique. Since this is an essential to passing essay two I will need to verify that it has been completed correctly. Also, I think I need to make sure that each of my points relate back to my thesis that way the reader does not get lost on the overall point of the paper.

Essay one helped ease me into the writing process and also helped build a little confidence in my writing skills. Because of this I am hoping that essay two will come easier to me and it will have a better flow to it.

Writing Styles

When first starting off an essay, there are many different paths one can choose to take. I, personally, feel that I do a mixture of the techniques suggested in From Inquiry to Academic Writing and also different tools that I have learned in the past english calsses that I have taken. While reading the articles, I make sure that I am annotating well and will most likely go over the readings at least twice just to make sure Im understanding everything correctly. Second, making a list of similarities between the articles helps me select what I feel is most interesting for myself and is a decent arguable topic. I then formulate my thesis. After I finished preparing a strong thesis statement, I then layout an outline to make sure that the organization of my paper is right on. Finally, its time to start writing! For this particular essay, I will use the explanations of synthesis in the book, and also the examples that were presented in class. Although, I am still unsure about the synthesis writing technique, I feel that the general writing style that I have grasped from both the book and in class will help me write a strong paper.
